A broad conical shape with stout branches. Very cold hardy tree. Popular for forest planting because of its disease and insect resistance. Tolerates dry conditions. Thrives on sandy loam soils. Prefers full sun. Shade intolerant. Often grown for Christmas trees, ornamentals, timber, and windbreaks.
